The ProficiencyBuilder Model
How Does It Work?
Now that you know a little about the ProficiencyBuilder Model, let me show you how it works. Remember: the model is, in its lightest form (Instructor-Level), an overhaul of your current traditional grading system. That's right, it's competency-based from here on out; no more points or percentages. Of course, its other features can be used to guide programs and departments as a whole (Program-Level).
Let's watch a few videos about how competency-based language learning works:

Let's be real. This is no silver bullet. This model will not miraculously solve the challenges of learning a language. In fact, the ProficiencyBuilder Model does have several shortcomings. And it might not be for you. Should you choose to, I highly recommend piloting it first. Remember, it took me years of experimentation to get me to where I am now with competency-based learning. Although I feel good about it, you can expect some initial bumps along the way. Of course, like learning anything for the first time, you'll need to invest time until you become familiar with everything.
