Final Grade Calculation
Use this page to help you convert a student's final three proficiency, course content, and participation rubric scores to percentages, from which you can then calculate a final course grade. If you use the Competency Tracker Form-Letter Grade option, these steps are done automatically for you. Scroll down to see a sample final grade calculation. Or, use the calculator to convert multiple rubric scores to a final percentage.
Instructions
When a student is deemed competent in all outcomes at the end of the course, simply collect the overall rubric scores in proficiency, course content, and participation. In the sample screenshot below, we'll collect the final scores of 5 in proficiency, 4.3 in course content, and 4 in participation.
Note: If you use from ProficiencyBuilder's Competency Tracker Form, this calculation is automatically done for you (this page will just help you explain the process); if you use your schools learning management system, you will need to calculate the final grades manually following these instructions.
Next, simply convert these three separate rubric scores to three separate percentages using the table below. Using the example, the 5, 4.3, and 4 would convert to 99%, 89%, and 85%, respectively.
With these percentages, you are experienced with the rest. It’s simply a matter of weighing these categories, multiplying the three percentages by the weights, then finding the sum of the results. In our example, let’s say proficiency is weighted as 45%, course content 45%, and participation 10%. Simply multiply 99% by 45%, 89% by 45%, and 85% by 10%, add the results together, and you have a final course grade of 93%.
Note: if you are using your school's learning management system's gradebook, this is a manual calculation. Although you only have to do this once, consider using the Competency Tracker Form to speed up the process. In the Final Grade Calculation tab, manually input the final three scores and weights and the final grade calculates automatically.
